Progress in Family

Family and home life

The sun is rising on the household — advance warmly, no scorekeeping.

Context
Family

Read this hexagram through home life, close bonds, household dynamics, and care.

Direct answer

Hexagram 35 in family means genuine advance: the sun rising over the earth — trust growing, warmth returning, recognition flowing between members. Progress here is a by-product; it comes not from working at the family but from each of you brightening what you bring to it. Keep tending that, and the household's climb continues by itself.

Leading the household

The family is ascending — cooperation easier, the sense of being valued by one another arriving or returning. Use the bright season the right way: not to coast, and not to start measuring ("are we as close as we should be?" is the ego's sunrise trap — measurement initiates doubt, and doubt breaks the climb). Brighten your own contribution instead; the sun rises by being the sun, and how far a family progresses is set by how far each member distances themselves from what dims them. Mind the two shadowed lines. Hamster-progress (line 4): using the good times to quietly accumulate advantage or keep private score inside the household. And the lowered horns (line 6): force is permissible only against your own faults — never for teaching a relative a lesson in a warm season.

Repairing tension

Where warmth is returning after a hard stretch, two passages help. Line 1 — progress turned back: goodwill that stalls, trust not yet re-extended by a wounded relative. Stay calm and generous; anger here only hinders the inner progress that is available, and confidence not yet given comes to the one who did not demand it. Line 2 — progress in sorrow: advancing toward the family alone, the connection you want still absent. Don't buy company at the price of principle — better to go on in humility than force a reconciliation on someone else's terms. Endured rightly, the loneliness ends in line 3's accord: the family falls in beside you and the climb stops being solo.

Watch out for

The shadow is the ego at sunrise: taking credit for the good weather in the house, converting warmth into entitlement, resting on the family's laurels while quietly expecting closeness to keep accruing. Watch scorekeeping above all — grievances and favours tallied nightly (line 5 releases you: take neither gain nor loss to heart; the wide view is where real family progress lives). And never advance by aggression in a bright season; hostility spends in one evening what the sunrise took months to gather.

Reflection

Am I brightening what I bring to the family — or measuring what I get?

What score am I quietly keeping that daylight would embarrass?

Where has warmth turned into entitlement without my noticing?
