Your earning power grows here by receptivity, not force. Make your work so genuinely good, your service so easy to say yes to, that clients and rates come toward you — the way the mountain's stillness draws the lake down. Watch where your financial impulses sit. Toes and calves (lines 1–2): the twitch to jump on a hot tip, moved by a friend's apparent gains — notice it, don't act on it; waiting brings the good fortune. The thighs (line 3): chasing every opportunity that stirs desire, running after returns — refrain, because the one who doesn't chase keeps the composure that attracts. The heart (line 4): keep your money decisions free of anxious agenda; a still investor sees clearly, an agitated one only reaches for what he's already fixed on.
Influence in Money
Money and finances
Attract money by being worth choosing, not by chasing it.
Use this interpretation for finances, resources, spending, security, and material stewardship.
Hexagram 31 in money means influence works by attraction, not pursuit. The mountain holds itself beneath the lake — the strong invites rather than presses. In money this is the difference between value that draws clients and rates of its own accord, and grasping that pushes deals and repels people. Be worth choosing, and let the money come.
Pressure tempts you to manufacture income by pushing — the desperate pitch, the discount that begs, the deal chased past its natural yes. This forfeits both dignity and, usually, the deal (line 3: to run after is humiliating). Hold still instead. Fix your inner state — an anxious, projecting mind (line 4) makes poor money choices and clients feel the neediness. Steady your resolve at the back of the neck (line 5): unreactive to each day's market noise, adaptable without panic. And beware the tongue (line 6): influence dwindled to selling talk your work doesn't back earns nothing but lost credibility. What you genuinely are and offer keeps attracting, quietly, even in a lean stretch.
The money shadow is manufactured influence: chasing returns, pushing sales, deploying charm and pressure to produce a financial effect rather than becoming someone value flows toward. Watch the agitated investor projecting hope onto a position, the seducer's shortcut in a pitch, the promise the delivery can't match. Each wins a transaction and loses the relationship — and what's won by manoeuvring must be held by manoeuvring forever, at rising cost. Compliance bought is never loyalty earned.
The six lines in money
In the big toe
The first faint pull toward a deal or tip — nothing acted on yet. Check your motive now, while it's still only a stirring.
In the calves
Moved by others' apparent gains and by surface momentum. Following it brings misfortune; waiting until the substance is proven brings fortune.
In the thighs
Chasing every opportunity that excites you — running after returns. Refrain; the one who doesn't chase keeps the poise that draws money in.
The agitated heart
The decisive line: a still, agenda-free mind judges money clearly. An anxious one reaches only for what it's already fixated on. Keep it clean.
The back of the neck
Resolve grown firm and unreactive — no longer jerked about by every market swing or hot headline. Steadiness here leaves no room for regret.
Jaws, cheeks, tongue
Selling with words the work doesn't back. It persuades no one worth keeping — let the quality of what you deliver do the earning.
Am I attracting this income, or chasing it and calling that effort?
What is my mind projecting onto this position — clear judgement or anxious hope?
Where am I being moved by others' apparent gains rather than the substance?
